Daily words and your library
Start in Today to read a word, hear its pronunciation or explore its details. Library contains saved vocabulary and bookmarks. Use Add a word to save your own word or phrase with a meaning and optional example. Daily discovery uses a local catalog. After its unseen words are exhausted, existing words can be revisited; the app does not claim an unlimited supply of newly written words.
Review and progress
Practice offers recall and a short quiz. Review dates change when you deliberately grade a word in the app. Basic progress shows saved activity counts. The review planner shows the current saved schedule, groups overdue words into today, and excludes words with no scheduled date from its chart. It does not represent a complete answer history or a measure of fluency.
Widgets
Touch and hold your Home Screen, choose Edit and Add Widget, then search WordLedger. An earlier installation can still be named LexiGlow. After adding it, touch and hold the widget and choose Edit Widget. Select a mode, an active study deck where applicable, and Word & meaning or Recall first. All widget options are free. Empty or archived decks do not substitute unrelated words. Open the app after updating or restoring data, then use Settings → Refresh widgets if needed. iOS controls actual refresh timing.
Plus and previous access
Open Settings → Purchases & previous access to check or restore access with the original Apple Account. Eligible verified earlier LexiGlow downloads retain Plus. Do not purchase again merely to recover previous access. Pending or unverified purchases do not unlock Plus. If purchases are unavailable in your installed version, core learning, saved words, widgets and ordinary JSON backup remain usable. Apple controls payment receipts and refunds. Any earlier subscription is managed through Apple Account → Subscriptions; uninstalling does not cancel it.
Backups and exports
Open Settings → Backup & restore. Keep a private JSON backup before moving devices. Version 2 backups can include decks, notes and discovery history; words-only exports use the simpler format. Import does not delete your library. Read the import preview and any partial-restore warning. Printable study kits are an optional Plus feature; deck notes are included only when you choose to include them. WordLedger has no automatic cross-device sync.
Sources
Use Settings → Sources & licenses for the catalog’s source details and complete WordNet notice. Usage-reference links open the original publisher’s website. Reference links are not a claim of affiliation. Review your own saved definitions and examples for your intended context.
WordLedger for Android
The instructions above describe iPhone and iPad. The native Android 1.0 app has the same local-study approach, with the following platform-specific controls. Its availability depends on the Android release status.
Getting started and widgets
Use Today, Practice and Library to read, review and save words. In Library, choose Add word. On your Home Screen, touch and hold an empty space, choose Widgets and find WordLedger, then add its widget. The launcher may instead offer an Add button. Choose Reading or Recall and a word source in the configuration screen. Settings → Add a Home Screen widget can also request placement on supported launchers; Android controls whether and how that request appears. All widget modes and sources are free. An empty source does not substitute unrelated words. Tapping a populated widget opens that word.
Pronunciation
The app uses an installed offline English voice. If none is available, it explains that an English text-to-speech voice needs to be downloaded in Android settings. The wording and location of those settings vary by phone and speech provider. WordLedger does not record audio or request microphone access.
Android Plus
Plus is an optional one-time Google Play purchase for study decks and personal context, focused practice, the full word-choice exercises, the review planner and printable PDF kits. Daily words, basic practice, manual entries, bookmarks, widgets and complete JSON backups remain free. Open a Plus feature from Practice to see the upgrade screen and Restore purchases. Restore with the original Google Play account; do not buy again merely to recover access. Pending and unverified purchases do not unlock Plus. Previously verified one-time access remains available offline; reconnect to Google Play to refresh it.
Purchases are separate between Apple and Google Play. An iPhone receipt or imported vocabulary backup does not unlock Android Plus. Google controls Android receipts, payments and refunds. If you installed a QA build, its clearly labelled “Preview Plus tools (not a purchase)” switch is for development testing and creates no purchase. Store builds do not contain that switch.
Android backups and PDF kits
In Settings choose Export complete JSON backup or Preview a backup to import. Both are free. Read the preview before applying an import; it keeps existing customized or practiced words. The optional untouched-starter restoration can restore practice history onto an otherwise pristine starter library. Supported v1/v2 WordLedger backups can move words, bookmarks, dates and decks between Android and iPhone; timestamps may lose submillisecond precision. There is no automatic sync, and Android app data is excluded from automatic cloud/device-transfer backup.
Plus PDF kits offer A4 or Letter pages and a study or recall layout for up to 100 selected words. Personal deck context is excluded unless you choose to include it. Use Android's share sheet to select a destination and keep personal exports private. Saved decks and their data remain readable and exportable if Plus access is unavailable.
